“A beautiful family sanctuary to escape to and in.”

Our client was keen to maintain a style in keeping with the era of the original home, while creating a sanctuary that her family could escape the rigours of work and study to. We renovated this beautiful home across a number of years in stages to minimise disruption, and to ease the pressure on her purse strings. Our scope also included designing the previously unkempt, barren gardens full of palm trees and little else. Now, this gorgeous home truly is an oasis from the busy world around it.

The home was originally built in the 1940’s and enjoyed some of the great characteristics of war homes, such as high ceilings, ornate cornices, and floorboards. It is on a good sized block surrounded by quality homes, and needed to be brought out of its shell to shine in it’s own right. A steep roof pitch meant we could add an attic, and a 1980’s extension meant we could create a fabulous Master Suite with French doors opening to a private walled courtyard.

We hadn’t seen so many palm trees outside of the tropics as we were faced with in this garden. The home had great bones, but internal walls were clad with inch thick pine panels separated by jarrah strips. The single bathroom we started with was clad with cedar, with dark green slate floor tiles and a peach basin and bath. It took some vision to see past it all and work out a renovation programme achievable on a budget over a number of years.
