“Lockhart gives new meaning to being ‘close to home’”

One of our first and most enduring successes, this home and this client means more to us than any other, and so she should – this client was Deb’s Mother. In truth, most of what Deb knows about design didn’t come from the pages of a book and wasn’t taught in a classroom – her Mum also has an innate design sense, and a practiced eye for colour, texture and style, and they had great fun putting together this refurbishment of her classic 1960’s home.

The existing house already had lovely airy rooms with high ceilings, some quirky 60’s features, and gorgeous wide floorboards. The Verandah off the large Lounge was already there but hadn’t seen any love in several decades. The Kitchen cabinetry was dark, gloomy Jarrah and the original Bathroom had pink and grey tessellated tiles, a pink bath and vanity basin. The colours were just plain boring, and there was very little “life in the old girl” when we started the refurbishment.

Working with family and friends is always to be treated with the caution and respect a close relationship deserves. Fortunately, tastes and styles meshed beautifully and many years were spent enjoying the fruits of this great collaboration before Deb’s Mum and her partner sold it to retire in New Zealand.
